Project Overview
My entry to Epic Games' Lighting contest, where I placed 2nd in the Students' submission bracket
Software & Tools: Unreal Engine 5
The prompt: In May, we launched the first of many Unreal Challenges to come. In this challenge, we encouraged the community to create a short, 10-30-second video to showcase their lighting abilities by building up a scene leveraging existing assets, and making it shine!
Process & Workflow
Planning: Given a brief prompt, I had to come up with a captivating idea for my scene. My goal is not only to showcase my lighting skills but also my storytelling skills. "Better light than never" was the title of the challenge, and I had some Ideas to correlate lighting and some story behind my scenes. My top choice was to create a classroom scene where an older person still goes, regardless of his age, but he gets bullied because of it.
Lighting Setup: I was going for a moody afternoon lighting scene.
Camera Blocking & Composition: Established precise camera angles and compositional blocking to achieve targeted, cinematic framing for every shot.
Final Rendering & Compositing: Executed the final renders, applied comprehensive color grading, and finalized the post-production editing.
